Whitewater Fishing’s new Thermoclyne Hooded Jacket stratifies to keep the cold out and your comfort in
In “limnology” – the biological study of lakes and other freshwater bodies of water – a thermocline is described in simplest terms as a steep temperature gradient marked by a shallower warmer layer and cooler deeper layer. Savvy anglers understand how the summertime phenomenon influences baitfish and gamefish species and use it to their advantage. But enough about the science… Whitewater Fishing just took a techy and catchy word, swapped out an “I” for a “y” to save the sound but own the word, and call their new sporty and sophisticated maritime garment the Thermoclyne Hooded Jacket.

The insulation on tap is Sonora® Aura, which Whitewater thermally-mapped to increase insulation in key areas, while intelligently reducing it in others. What is Sorona Aura? Available exclusively in upscale products, it’s a partially plant-based, breathable, and lightweight insulation material designed for apparel such as jackets, pants, gloves, and hats. Sorona Aura insulation retains warmth effectively with less filling and weight compared to traditional insulations, making garments less bulky and more comfortable for active outdoor use. It’s also engineered to be breathable, helping regulate body temperature and wick moisture away, thus preventing overheating and clamminess while active on the water. Garments insulated with Sorona® Aura are also known to maintain their loft and shape wash after wash, ensuring lasting performance and comfort.

The Thermoclyne Hooded Jacket’s outer shell is composed of a durable but smooth 100% nylon shell with DWR (durable water repellant) treatment and measurable wind protection. The distinctive treatment both sheds moisture and lessens staining. Additionally, Polygiene® StayFresh keeps things fresh, even after long days on the water. 100% safe, Polygiene StayFresh inhibits bacteria that cause unpleasant odors, allowing fabrics to retain freshness even during heavy use or sweaty conditions. Sweat itself is usually odorless, but bacteria feed on it and cause the smell. Polygiene technology makes it impossible for these bacteria to multiply by embedding silver chloride – a naturally occurring salt – in the fabric. The freshness feature is permanent, too, lasting for the lifetime of the product.

All this talk and we haven’t thrown spotlight on the jacket’s heady physical design and features. So, let’s call out an especially clever element. “Staying on theme with versatility, the Thermoclyne Hooded Jacket packs into its own pocket for easy storage and transport,” said Allie. That’s awfully innovative.

Features continue with the jacket’s shaped hood. Adjusters keep the hood locked in place even when turning your head. Moreover, the hood combines with a high collar to seriously oppose the cold. The fit of the Thermoclyne Hooded Jacket is equally impressive, every square inch considered with movement in mind. The elbows, for example, are articulated with a natural bend so fabric doesn’t stretch and struggle while casting or reaching for a fresh minnow. Likewise, the armholes are sculpted to encourage movement, as well as provide a seamless-slide into an outer layer.
